Preachers with laryngitis

Preachers with laryngitis

It’s one of those perplexing eternal questions which will be answered only in glory.  Why does God allow a preacher to get laryngitis?  Such was my case this past weekend.  I don’t know sign language and most people of CHCC can’t read sign language so therefore it would have been an exercise in futility for me to even step into the pulpit to preach on Sunday.  What was I to do? Enter my friend, Rich Jaquish.  On the spur of the moment and as a testament and example  to being able to “give a reason of the hope that lies within” Rich agreed to preach for me with less than 24 hours notice.  He did a great job preaching from 1 Peter, only one of my most favored passages.  I have received very good feedback from those present and I would encourage everyone reading this blog to check out his message on our ‘Sermon’ page.  It fit right in to our recent series on true worship. My personal thanks to Rich and to Pastor Rocky Hammond, who had to give up one of his teachers at First Baptist Church of New Bethlehem for the morning.  It’s great being a part of the unified body of Christ and able to rely on each other to further the Gospel call in the Jefferson and Clarion County area.

Why do we preach the Word of God?

Why do we preach the Word of God?

Pastor John Macarthur has nailed my passion in a recent short article that he has written, Why preach the Word? Click on the link and read this.  Most of what preachers are passing off as preaching today is nothing more than a motivational/self help talk with a smattering of scripture, usually taken out of context.  Our churches are facing a serious dearth of sound preaching and it is manifesting itself in congregations that find themselves as nothing more than civic minded social clubs that sing songs of worship to a God they barely know and obey even less.  I am so thankful for the people of CHCC who have allowed me to proclaim God’s word in it’s entirety and their desire to grow in the ‘grace and knowledge of our Lord’.  I’m no scholar, for I struggle each week to understand even the smallest passage of the Word of God, but I am convinced that as long as the Lord allows me to preach, by His grace, I will never cease to proclaim the entire truth of the Word of God as He reveals it to me.  It is the Word of God that changes our lives.  “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe” – The Bible

Isaiah’s Vision!

Isaiah’s Vision!

This Sunday’s morning message was taken from Isaiah chapter 6.  The vision that the prophet had of the very temple and throne of God is an amazing study.  I am gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of our preiminent God in all of His attributes.  The comments from our people have been very encouraging as to the impact that this series has had on their view of God and making much of Him.  I would encourage everyone to listen to our sermons or better yet to visit us this coming week for the next sermon in this series. It’s a privilege to preach at CHCC and the liberty that this people have given me to expound God’s word is very much appreciated.  Feel free to visit us, we would love to see you. Soli Deo Gloria!

Website Stats!

Website Stats!

Our new website will be a month old this weekend.  Here is a fascinating statistic.  We reached 1000 views on our site in less than 30 days.  This is an amazing stat considering the size of our church and it’s rural location.  It appears that God has chosen to use this site, as through this internet ministry several opportunities haven been given to members of the church to speak of the hope that we have in Christ. To our members, check out the sermon and information pages daily and keep referring people to our address.  To our visitors, please return often and know that you are welcome at our services any time.  We also would love to offer biblical help in any way we can, be it encouragement, counseling, prayer or just a listening ear.  God loves you and so do we.

Basics 2009 Conference – Day 2

Basics 2009 Conference – Day 2

I can’t tell you how impressed I have been with our speakers at the Basics 2009 Pastor’s conference this year.  Today we were challenged once again by Pastor John Piper to remain committed to the supremacy of Christ and His accomplishments on our behalf.  Pastor Piper used John 3 as his text today to show the regeneration (new birth) work of Christ and how we diminish Christ when we don’t teach the necessity of this new birth. I  find myself so inadequate as a preacher and expositor of the word after attending these conferences but also even more steadfast in the need to stand strong on the supremacy of the scriptures and THEIR power unto conversion. It certainly isn’t my persuasive speech.   Sola Scriptura!

Basics 2009 Pastor’s conference

Basics 2009 Pastor’s conference

I sit here at Parkside Church near Cleveland, Ohio having just finished the first day’s session of the Basics 2009 Pastor’s Conference. In listening to Pastor John Piper expound the need for Pastors and churches to remain faithful to sound doctrine and in particular the doctrine of the  justification by faith alone and the imputation of Christ’s righteousness to our account, I am more convinced in our stand at CHCC to the clear proclamation of the truth of God’s word in everything we do.  We can not and must not compromise the very souls of men and the joy of the elect by allowing any facet of biblical dotrine to go untaught.  Thank you CHCC for allowing me that freedom to expound God’s word in all of it’s fullness. For blogging of the ongoing conference refer to our links of ‘Trusted Bloggers’, in particluar Tim Challies.  Also link to Parkside church for details of  the conference and downloads of the sessions.

Awana Award night!

Awana Award night!

Tonight at 6:30 pm is the final Awana program for the year at CHCC. The kids will be receiving their awards for the hard work they have put in. What a great evening it will be for them and their parents and grandparents. They had a great time at their carnival last week and pictures from that evening will soon be added to our website. All are welcome tonight. If you have never sent your kids to Awana and are considering it, please checkout the website and come tonight to see the impact that Awana has on kids. Our kids, and yes your kids, need to have instilled in them godly virtue and truth spoken into their lives. Awana does that. Also see the updated ‘Our People’ page for pictures from our Mother Daughter dinner last Friday night. It’s great being here at CHCC.

Another great Sunday at CHCC!

Another great Sunday at CHCC!

What a great day to be in the house of the Lord. Our sermon, at CHCC, was part 3 of our series on Worship, taken from Isaiah 1. We saw today that God invites us to clean up our worship before bringing it to Him as He detests hollow worship. It isn’t an issue of outward tweaking or polishing of our worship but an inward cleaning of our hands and the ‘putting off of the evil of our deeds’ not simply putting off the evil deeds. You can listen to the entire sermon by going to ‘Our Sermons’ page and clicking on the slider bar. You’ll also notice a new look there, as we have made it a little easier to use and the scripture passage is listed there for you also. You can even listen to the passage being read if you like. What a great time of praises being shared and communion around the Lord’s Table today.

Mother/Daughter Dinner

Mother/Daughter Dinner

What a great time we all had at the Mother Daughter Dinner. Everyone had great comments about it as the ladies enjoyed dinner, a devotional by Tammy, Chantelle and Sharon, music by Val and fellowship with each other. Thanks to all the men who helped with the decorating, meal and clean up. A special thanks to Jim Titler for his interior design expertise and decorating. It was a pleasure to serve the ladies. Check out the ‘Our People’ page in the next couple of days for pictures of the night. Looking forward to another great day in the Lord’s house this weekend as we continue our message series on Worship from the book of Isaiah and communion.

April 26th, 2009 Worship of a God who saves, part 2

April 26th, 2009 Worship of a God who saves, part 2

An incredible weather weekend here in western Pa. Also another incredible Sunday at CHCC. Our focus in the morning messages, both in worship service and Sunday School has been appropriate and inappropriate worship of God. We are in the book of Isaiah and will be for the next couple of weeks. What an eye opening passage this has been for me as preacher. How shallow our worship has become in the contemporary church today. We must find ourselves worshiping our God as He has demanded and not in our hollowed out worship that we are so quick to bring to Him. Isaiah understood this as he got a glimpse of our Holy God and cried out that he was a man of unclean lips in repentance. There is much to say to the church today in the year 2009 from this OT book. Join us this week and listen to the past two weeks here online. Don’t forget the Mother/Daughter Dinner this Friday at the church. Call if you haven’t signed up and we will reserve a seat for you. Great food, entertaining skit, and a short encouragement from God’s word by Tammy is planned. A great time is promised. The men have even authorized a money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied. (since there is no cost to begin with, this isn’t much of a drawing point, so come for the great time). Great being here at CHCC.
